+ More Information
Adding to the appeal of this community are the many mature trees on the large lots (around half an acre). The wide streets are great for biking, strolling or walking your dog. Whisper Creek was developed by L & B Associates and building started in 1985 along Whisper Creek Lane. Building then extended to Violet Court, Iris Street, Lark Court and Aster Court. Builders include Bill Clark Homes, Walter L Bland Construction, Frederick Homes, Fussell Builders and C R Wood Construction. The final phase was built in the early 1990’s along Bougainvillea Way. Most of the streets end in cul-de-sacs which makes the neighborhood quiet and not easily used as a cut through. An exit onto Beasley allows access to Masonboro Loop Road and Pine Grove. Currently there is no active Home Owners Association in existence for Whisper Creek so there are no homeowner’s dues. Holly Tree Elementary, Roland Grise Middle School and Hoggard High School are the areas public schools with private schools such as Cape Fear Academy close by. Within walking distance of Whisper Creek is James E. L. Wade Park. The park can be accessed from Bethel Road (which crosses both Aster and Bougainvillea). Opened in January 2009 this park covers 17 acres and is open every day from dawn to dusk. There is a covered picnic area, a children’s play area, bathroom facilities and a half mile path around the perimeter. The wetland area, which covers about 12 acres, was constructed to help the storm water drainage quality from the surrounding 500 acres which drains from this area to Hewlett’s Creek. This lovely park, maintained by the city, is a wonderful habitat for native and migratory birds, plants and small animals. Whisper Creek is conveniently located just minutes from Long Leaf Mall and the South College Road area where you will find grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies and a multitude of other retail opportunities. Whisper Creek is a 20 minute drive from Historic Downtown Wilmington and the Riverwalk where you can shop at locally owned boutiques, dine by the river or enjoy the great nightlife. For more traditional shopping Mayfaire Shopping Center is about a twenty minute drive. Along Oleander Drive, about 10 minutes from Whisper Creek, you’ll find Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Independence Mall and Hanover Shopping Center. When you are ready for a day at the beach or an evening of watching the sun set over the ocean, Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches are a mere 20 minutes away. A well established, conveniently located, beautiful community, Whisper Creek is a great place to live!
