Figure 8 homesThe Porters Neck area is located just north of Ogden as you head north on route 17.  This area is one of the last areas to be developed in Wilmington, or New Hanover County to be specific.  As this are was so recently developed you will find a number of impressive communities that offer relatively new homes. 

This part of town is also the gateway to Figure 8 Island, a five mile long private island consisting of 441 private vacation homes ranging in price from one to six million.  Figure 8 island is connected only by a swivel drawbridge and does not contain commercial establishments such as hotels or restaurants.  In fact, the only non-residential facility is the island clubhouse and yacht club.  And Figure 8 island real estate is as pristine as the beaches are spectacular. One of the most established and popular communities in Wilmington is Porter's Neck Plantation, a 650 acre gated golfing community surrounding a Tom Fazio designed course.  Golf Digest ranked this golf course number 1 on the North Carolina coast. Porter’s neck also maintains seven clay tennis courts, a fully equipped sports center and a magnificent 18th Century Federal-style clubhouse.  Single family homes start in the $300’s and range to 1 million.  There are also a few waterfront homes on Bald Eagle Lane with price tags from $1 to $3 million.  If you are looking at Landfall in Wilmington, NC you should look at Porter's Neck Plantation, which is every bit as nice but with a slightly lower price tag. Some of the other Communities in the Porters Neck area include; Blue Point, Marsh Oaks, Vineyard Plantation, Avenel,  Laurel Lea, Plantation Landing, Porter’s Crossing and Edgewater.  Each community has unique amenities and advantages, from direct intracoastal water access to cottage style homes surrounding a private lake.  All of the communities are relatively new and most offer the opportunity to build a new home to your liking.

Porters Neck also has a commercial component located primarily at the intersection of route 17 and Porter’s Neck Road.  Here you will find 2 grocery stores, numerous restaurants, cleaners, a new Lowe’s Home Improvement Center, medical facilities and many other services.  The new I-140 connecter also makes for an easy commute to GE and other businesses located either on the north side of town or in the downtown area.
