If you happen to be visiting the lovely Port City of Wilmington this month of September, then you are going to have lots to do when you aren’t searching for the next place you will call home~ wink, wink. Generally speaking, there is a farmers market going on either in downtown Wilmington, Carolina Beach, or Popular Grove Plantation. There are many art exhibits and wine tastings most every weekend. There is even a wine 101 class/workshop where you learn all about the smell, taste & history of wine. If you like cruises along the Cape Fear River, you might enjoy taking the Black River Cruise with Cape Fear River Boats or the Henrietta Dinner Cruise. If music is your forte, then keep in mind the concert series at Airlie Gardens featuring jazz and the band “Stardust”. The Greenfield Lake Amphitheater features artists several times a month as well. It is a beautiful setting around Greenfield Lake and the weather should be cooler now, making it even more enjoyable. The Projekte also features live local singers/songwriters that you might want to check out. One of my favorite places to go is the Blue Water Grille at Wrightsville Beach on Sunday afternoons for the Sundown celebration and waterfront music series right on the Intracoastal waterway. What a great time to relax and finish off the weekend. For the theatre lovers, don’t forget about Opera House Theatre Company presenting “The Most Happy Fella” at Thalian Hall, the children’s theatre TACT opening of “Guys and Dolls” and Dolly Parton’s Tony award-winning musical “9 to 5”. If you enjoy comedy, there is a live stand up show featuring Todd Glass as well. For those of you who are considering taking up golf, there is a men’s amateur golf tournament at the Wilmington Municipal golf course or if you are a tennis lover, there is a day this month where we are celebrating tennis and also a volleyball tournament fundraiser. There is also a semi-professional football game between the Wilmington Tigers vs. the Virginia Crusaders and a UNC-Wilmington soccer game. If exercise is what you enjoy, you might want to participate in the 5K Autumn Fun Run/Walk or the YMCA’s Triathlon. Full-moon yoga is also going on. Towards the end of the month comes 4th Friday Gallery Night where several local artists and studios get together in the spirit of Art. The NC Battleship comes to life with re-enactors in the “Battleship Alive” program. The Wilmington Wine and Beer Walk is a hit with locals as well and the kayak sunset full moon adventure. You can’t miss the 49th annual Spot Festival too where you will taste some of the best spot fish ever, buy some arts, crafts and good food and even see the local spot festival pageant. And if you happen to be a pet-lover, there is the “pooch plunge” at Cape Fear Legion Stadium which will be fun and open for canines to swim! So as you can see, we have something for everyone here in wonderful Wilmington, so check out the website www.whatsonwilmington.com for specifics on any of the things I mentioned and you will even see there is so much more to do here than what I’ve mentioned. Just unpack your bags and plan on staying awhile...you’ve found your next new home! I’m a native Wilmingtonian and will be happy to answer any questions you have. Thanks for listening...Have a great time. Renee Britt, 910-262-1921.
